Recovery Work to Begin at Lindo Mar
Cleanup expected to take about four weeks
Removal of the debris from the recent retaining wall collapse at Lindo Mar Resort is expected to begin on December 4 or 5, 2006. The consulting engineers think it will take about a month to stabilize the area and remove the rubble. The start was delayed due to the necessity of bringing in equipment that was not available in Puerto Vallarta. The truck bearing the machinery is expected to arrive over the weekend of December 2/3.
The first order of business will be the shoring up of the remaining portion of the wall. That will involve the placement of anchors in several locations and the removal of the existing water holding tank under the parking lot near the office and lobby. The tank holds 91,000 liters (24,040 gallons) of water. When full it weighs just over 200,000 pounds or 100+ tons, not counting the weight of the tank itself.
Once the area of the collapse has been cleared, construction will begin on a new retaining wall. At that time, Lindo Mar can be occupied if the engineers do not discover any damage to the main building. At this time it does not appear that they will.
Updates will be posted here about every seven days. We hope the next one will include a few pictures of the cleanup operation. Stay tuned.
