Lindo Mar Resort to Reopen January 13, 2007
Guests will start checking in on Saturday

And now for more good news: the water is reconnected and the plumbing has been flushed out; a location for the propane tanks has been found and construction of a platform has begun; staff will be back to 100% this weekend and Lindo Mar will be back to normal. Except for a few tons of dirt outside rooms 101, 102, 201, and 202 but we can live with that for a few weeks.

The pictures accompanying this update show the work being done on the propane tank platform and the removal of the dirt. As you can see, the rubble is taken out entirely by hand and the work is made more difficult because of the wall parts that must be made smaller with a jackhammer. We expect it will take about four weeks to get it all out. As soon as the base of the wall is uncovered, construction of the new wall can be completed. You can see by the pictures that some of the concrete has been poured and the support beam for the new wall has been started. If you're going to be at Lindo Mar in the next few weeks and you can't find an activity you like, ask for a shovel or pickaxe and we'll see if we can keep you busy for a few hours.

Last Saturday, Roberto Chavez and one of the engineers found a spot to relocate the propane tanks and construction of a supporting platform began immediately. The gas company has assured us all along that they would only need a day or two to connect all the lines. We're counting on having hot water for Sunday morning showers, at the latest. Actually, we're confident it will be sooner but we'll see how it goes.

We have been lucky that, unlike what you may have experienced when having construction done (anywhere, not just in Mexico ), our costs are coming in under budget so far. The supervising engineer has been lobbying on our behalf with the other contractors and vendors to make sure we are not overcharged or hit with a factura that is way more than originally estimated. We are grateful for his efforts.
